Joker malware, one of the persistent pieces of malware targeting Android devices is back, this time appearing on 17 apps on the Google Play Store.
The infected apps, according to security research company Zscaler, keeps finding its way into Google's Play Store by employing changes in its code, execution methods, and how it downloads payloads.
The malware in turn steals SMS messages, contact lists, device information and as well silently signs up unsuspecting victims for premium wireless application protocol (WAP) services. These WAP services incur users heavy mobile bills as they are charged directly to it.
