Amazon's founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, has seen his wealth smash its previous record even after he relinquished a quarter of his stake in Amazon as part of their settlement last year.
According to a Wednesday Bloomberg Billionaire Index, Bezos wealth jumped to $172 billion after Amazon's shares jumped 4% up to a record $2,879. This new record beats his previous high of $168 billion in 2018, September 4.
The Amazon chief has seen his wealth soar this year alone, gaining $57 billion just from January 2020. The coronavirus pandemic has seen the Seattle-based company change from brick-and-mortar retail to e-commerce.

The Amazon CEO wasn't the only person from the tech sector to gain much wealth. Others such as Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Zoom Video Communication founder Eric Yuan also gained.
In the women's section, Bezos's ex-wife Mackenzie Bezos who got a 4% stake in Amazon after their divorce, has seen her wealth soar to $57 billion, following Amazon's share jump. This ranks her no. 12 in the world ranking and no. 2, second to Francoise Bettencourt Meyers in the women category.
