Google Files has crossed 500 million installs on the Google Play Store, joining the like of Facebook Messenger, LinkedIn, Google Messages, Telegram and a few other Android apps on the Android store.
Similar to other Android apps on the Google Play Store that have achieved such feat, Google Files do come pre-installed on some Android device. And each activation is counter as an install. Telegram is one of the few apps that have hundreds of millions of installs without being pre-installed on any device.
Formerly called 'Google Files Go', the Internet giant launched the app to help low-end Android phones manage storage: clear our old and duplicate files. The app can also sharer files between devices without using the Internet.
However, the app saw increased usage from high and mid-end Android devices, thanks to the apps lack of intrusive ads. Google later dropped the 'Go' from the name to say the app was no longer just for low-end Android users alone.
You can visit the Google Play Store if you want the functionality offered by the app.
