Huawei Launches Mate 30 And Mate 30 Pro, 5G Variants With No Google Apps

Huawei, on Thursday launched the Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro and both device 5G variants at its event in Germany. The newly released Huawei Mate devices comes with what you should expect of a flagship device, but however lacks the presence of Google apps due to the US ban placed on the Chinese tech firm.

The Mate devices comes clad in glasses at the front and back, an OLED curved FHD+ display, runs on Android 10 with EMIU 10.0 and is powered by a Kirin 990 SoC. Let’s look at the specification and prices of the new devices.

Specs and Prices of the Mate 30 Pro and Mate 30 Pro 5G

The Mate 30 Pro and Mate 30 Pro 5G smartphones comes with a 6.62-inch FHD+ OLED edge to edge 88 degree ultra-curved screen display, runs on Android 10 (EMIU 10.0) and are powered by Kirin 990 and Kirin 990 5G 7nm SoCs with dedicated NPUs.

One interesting thing with the Kirin 990 SoC is that it comes integrated with a 5G modem which should give the mate 30 Pro 5G a better life than other 5G phones which have to rely on extra circuits to receive the new transmission standard.

The Mate 30 Pro and Mate 30 Pro 5G smartphones comes with a Quad camera setup at the rear (similar to that of the Nokia 7.2); a 40MP (SuperSensing camera, f/1.8 aperture), 40 MP (Cine Camera), 16 MP (Ultra Wide Angle camera. f/2.2 aperture) and 8 MP (Telephoto camera, f/2.4 aperture, OIS, 3x Optical Zoom, 5x Hybrid Zoom3 and up to 30x Digital Zoom) +3D Depth Sensing Camera supports Autofocus, 7680fps ultra slow motion, 4k HDR+ time lapse.

For the front camera, there’s a 32 MP camera housed in the notch on the device display with 3D Depth Sensing camera for 3D face unlock and Gesture sensor to identify the user facial features and detect the movement of the user hands.

In the battery department, there’s a 4200mAh battery with 40W (10V/4A) Huawei SuperCharge fast charging technology, Wireless SuperCharge support and also Wireless Reverse Charge support.

Other features include an in-display finger print scanner, 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage, NM Card slot which lets the user to replace the second SIM with an NM Card, a system-wide dark mode capable of inverting apps that don’t natively support it, always on display, etc.

The Mate 30 Pro is priced at 1099 Euros (about $1,213) will be available

in Space Silver, Cosmic Purple, Emerald Green, and Black. For the Mate 30 Pro 5G, the device comes in Forest Green, Orange and will be available in vegan leather and will be sold for 1,199 Euros (about $1,324).

Huawei also released another device called the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 30 RS. This device comes in red and black in premium leather finish, 12GB RAM and 512GB internal storage, and has similar specs as the Mate 30 Pro 5G. Though there isn’t any word on its availability, the device will cost $2,313.

The Huawei Mate 30 smartphone and its 5G variant also sport most of the features that the Mate 30 Pro has. However, the device sports a triple rear camera instead of the quad camera set up on its bigger sibling, there’s an in-display fingerprint scanner but there’s no presence of a 3D Face unlock or Depth Sensing and Gesture as seen on the Pro version.

Just as it is on the bigger sibling, this device will run on Android 10 (EMUI 10.0) but won’t have any Google apps on it.

The Mate  30 comes in Emerald Green, Space Silver, Cosmic Purple and Black, while the Mate 30 5G will be available in Forest Green and Orange in available vegan leather. Starting price for the device is 799 Euros (about $882).
