Internet giant Google has agree to pay up to $500 as apart of a $7.25 million lawsuit settlement to the owners of the first generation faulty Pixel and Pixel XL devices manufactured in 2016.
According to The Verge, the proposed settlement groups owners of the Pixel devices that were manufactured before January 4, 2017 into four categories so as to determine the level of compensation which they will receive.
"The highest payout is due to be owned to anyone who returned a Pixel with a defective microphone, only to receive another defective device from the manufacturer. These claimants could be paid up to $500 in settlement. Any owners who had just a single defective device could get up to $350, while anyone who had to pay an insurance deductible could have its value repaid.Even Pixel owners who experienced no issues with their phones at all could get up to $20 from this settlement," The Verge said.
Initially, Google admitted that they were was an issue with some of the Pixel phones in March 2017 but said that only less than 1% of the devices were affected. It said the devices had a "hairline crack in the solder connection on the audio codec" which was causing problems when making calls and as well affecting the functionality of the phone's voice assistant.
However, displeased owners of the Google device decided to file a lawsuit against the company for its decision to continue selling the faulty device despite it being aware of the problem.
The court's final hearing on the aprovement of the settlement of the Pixel case will take place on the 5th of June.
Some time in April, Google also agreed to pay a lawsuit settlement with the Nexus 6P which had a bug that could trap them in a boot-loop.
Google and Huawei are to pay $9.75 million as part of the Nexu 6P lawsuit settlement whose final hearing will hold on October 10.
