When you Google for the term "idiot" you will be surprised to find the photos of US president Donald Trump showing up in the search results.
"How would that happen? How does search work so that that would occur?" Democratic Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren asked.
In response to the question, the Google CEO explained that the search giants algorithm collects data from billions of web pages and rank their keywords based on the relevance, popularity, freshness and how other people are using it.
"Anytime you type in a keyword, as Google we have gone out and crawled and stored copies of billions of pages in our index. And we take the keyword and match it against their pages and rank them based on over 200 signals -- things like relevance, freshness, popularity, how other people are using it," Pichai said.

"And based on that, at any given time, we try to rank and find the best search results for that query. And then we evaluate them with external raters, and they evaluate it to objective guidelines. and that's how we make sure progress is working."
Search results can be easily manipulated. Protesters in the UK used Green Day's song American Idiot during Donald Trumps visits to the UK.
However, it didn't just end there, Internet activists worked to link a connection between the pejorative and images of the American president.
How did they do this? Internet activist embarked on a campaign known as Google bombing. E.g. a Reddit user will post a photo of the US president with the "idiot" and then other Internet activists will up vote the post. This campaign manipulates Google's search algorithms.
While Internet activists were at it, bombing Google, Internet media and other news source were also reporting the news which made it to trend on Google, eventually, giving Googler's a picture of Mr. trump whenever they Googled for the word "idiot".
