Social media giant Facebook has finally unveiled its free dating service called Facebook Dating, and its live in Colombia.
The social media giant during its F8 developer conference this year announced its planned to launch a dating service to match make millions of people and nudge them into spending more tie together.
Facebook users above 18 years of age will be able to use the service. However, for now, desktop users won't be able to use this service which is part of the main app.
CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg said that the dating service is aimed at building real, long-term relationships and not just for hookups.
The free dating feature is optional to Facebook users as users will decide to opt for the service or not.
Facebook users interested in the service will have to create a separate dating profile for the service which will be separate from their Facebook profile. This will include an introduction of oneself, personal details, a profile picture and answers to personal questions like "Whats does your perfect day look like?"
The dating service also requires users to verify their location so as to be able to find matches within 100 Kilometers.
Facebook said that potential matches will be recommended based on dating preference, things in common and mutual friends. However, Facebook does not allow users to use their virtual location to add friends from that region.
To maintain privacy, Facebook will only draw the name and age from the users Facebook profile and non of the users dating activity will appear in Facebook's News Feed.
Facebooks entry into the dating market saw its share rise 1.1% as other dating servcices saw their shares fall. Facebook now pose a big threatr to other popular dating service such as Tinder, Match and OkCupid.
