How to use your USB pen drive to
lock and unlock your Computer? I know some of you would be probably thinking if
this is actually possible but yes it is. Using a USB pen drive to lock and unlock
your computer is quite easy and doesn't require any cumbersome process. Your
USB pen drive in this process makes use of an app called the “Predator” in locking your computer
system.
The Predator app with the help of your USB pen
drive locks your computer system the moment you unplug it and will unlock
it when you plug it back in. The benefits of using a USB
pen drive to lock your computer system is enormous but I would just be listing
a few of those features below
Features of the Predator
1. The Predator app takes pictures of
the people trying to break into your computer system behind your back and it
then mails them to you
2. The Predator app can sound an
audible alarm when an intruder tries to break into your computer system.
3. The Predator app can lock user
account on a daily, hourly, or even weekly basis according to your schedule
4. The Predator app records all
security-related events in a log file such as when the alarms start and stop so as to
keep the user updated with events that happened while away.
5. The Predator app lets the user regain
control of your computer if you lose your stick: when you start the software
for the first time, you set a password
that will unlock your session if your USB drive is not available.
6. The Predator app disables the CD Autorun feature in
Windows, to prevent intruders from running malware on specially crafted CDs.
7. So many other features included
Procedures:
1. Click here to download and install the Predator app
2. Now launch the Predator app and
then plug in a USB pen drive. Now the USB pen drive would ask you if you want
to create a password, click ok to continue.
3. Enter a secure password in the
"New Password" field so as to be able to unlock your computer system
when you lose your USB drive or something similar happens. You can still use a
password in addition to a USB lock/unlock. If you want this facility, check the
Always Required box and you’ll be asked to enter the password each time you use
your thumb drive to unlock your PC.
4. Now under the Flash Drive
section, make sure that you select the correct USB flash drive and then click
on "Create Key" and then OK.
5. The moment you do that the
Predator app would exit. Now click the Predator in the taskbar to restart the
program and when it’s done, the icon would turn green which means that the app
is running. You can always pause the Predator app by selecting "Pause
monitoring" Predator will always check every 30 seconds to see if your USB
pen drive is plugged in if not then the app would dim your computer and lock
it.
You can pause Predator at any time
select “Pause monitoring” from the taskbar menu. You can also check if someone
accessed your PC/laptop while the Predator was switched on using a USB drive from
the Predator activity log.
Note: All your
files would remain intact and won’t be tampered with when you apply this USB
lock to your computer. One issue with this USB unlocking stuff (which is not
actually a problem to me) is that one port is locked and dedicated specially
for the purpose of locking and unlocking your computer system.
Thank you for sharing the App
